Weight Plates
If you’re new to the world of weight plates, we’ve put together a summary of the different plate types we offer; Olympic Bumper Plates, Cast Iron Plates and Steel Plates.
All the plates in our range come with a standard 50mm opening, which fits all the Olympic barbells in the Strength Shop line. For certain exercises, you might want to use some additional collars to ensure your weight plates remain securely in place while lifting.
A note on pairing weight plates with different barbells: For more dynamic lifts (cleans, snatches and overhead work, we would recommend pairing an Olympic weightlifting barbell (see our Weightlifting Bars) with Olympic Bumper Plates. This is because the Olympic Weightlifting bars are more flexible in the shaft and work together with rubber bumpers to absorb impact from high drops.
Conversely, a barbell with a stiffer shaft (see our Powerlifting Bars) will be best suited to the Cast Iron or Steel Plates. Less slack allows the athlete to lift to their maximum potential with little movement from the barbell.
